PAPER #2: FINAL PEER REVIEW

Working in groups of three or four, you will need to read, mark, and comment on two papers and have two people do the same for you. Write "Read by" and give your name at the top of the paper. As you read, mark the paper, giving particular attention to the following:

  • Particularly strong examples, transitions, quotations, and discussion
  • Typos, grammatical errors (particularly punctuation associated with the FANBOYS and also with introductory clauses
  • Quote mechanics (use of signal phrase, quotations, citations, and discussion)
  • Works cited mechanics
  • MLA format and computer issues

Once you have read and marked the paper, write a lengthy note that addresses the following issues to the author:

  • Is Freire and his essay's title identified in the opening paragraph? Is the title marked correctly?
  • What is the actual argument the author is trying to prove? Is it clearly presented as a provable point in the introduction, or is it just an announcement of a topic with no specific argument? Does the thesis match what the paper actually says in the rest of the essay? What modifications to the introduction might the author consider?
  • Does the paper have enough specific examples of the teacher's behavior? Which example is the best? Which one seems vague? Are these examples tied to quotations and/or arguments from Freire's essay?
  • Are there sections of the paper where the quotations from Freire need further clarifications? Can you think of better quotations that might help the argument? Should the author give more quotations from Freire? Are the explanations of the quotations accurate?
  • Does the conclusion make a clear argument that ties together the primary points of the body of the paper? Is the claim about the teacher or about Freire clear at the end?
  • What other advice do you have for the author?
