Working with your partner, please do the following:
1. Read the draft
2. Answer the following questions about the paper. Please write this on the back of their paper.
a. How many pages is the draft?
b. Are they doing the educational problem or the history option?
c. For educational problems: clearly state what the problem is as defined by the writer and what the solution is that is being offered. Comment on if they have sufficiently described why the issue is a problem and how realistic the solution offered is.
For historical options: clearly state the historical event, group, or individual that is being discussed. What is the way the historical item is currently portrayed in school? What is the problem with that portrayal according to the author? Who benefits from that narrative? What information does the author think should be taught/known instead about the historical item? Who benefits from this new narrative?
d. Comment on the use of evidence from sources: in addition to using proper citations and giving all four parts of a quotation (signal phrase, quote, citation, discussion), comment on the quality of the sources found, how they are used, and if there are obvious facts or ideas that should be included in the discussion. If the writer is only using one main source, point out that they need to use a variety of sources.
e. Comment on if the paper is purely a presentation of information or an actually argument. If it's only a presentation of information, suggest how the writer can convert it into an argument with a clear point that the paper seeks to prove.
