VIRTUAL CLASS/ PEER REVIEW (20 Points)

For our class on Friday, March 2, we will not meet as a physical group. We will, however, have a virtual class in which each of you will peer review another student's paper. Here's how it will work:

  1. Post a copy of your paper as both a copy-and-paste and an attachment to the Discussion Board in the "Paper 2: Draft 3" forum by 8 AM. IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU POST BY 8AM.
  2. Peer review the paper posted immediately BEFORE your own. The first person to post his or her third draft will be excused from doing a peer review. To peer review, do the following:
  • Open the MS Word copy of the file.
  • Click on CAPS LOCK to make sure your comments appear as CAPITAL LETTERS in the document.
  • Do the following to the document:
    • INTRODUCTION: at the end of the introduction, write a paragraph that restates both the subject and thesis of the paper. If you cannot do that because introduction is unclear, say so. Then comment on how effectively the introduction introduces the primary text and author, and then comment on how effectively the secondary texts used to discuss the primary text is introduced. Finally, comment on how clearly the writer sets up the major points to be made in the paper.
    • FOR EACH BODY PARAGRAPH: at the end of each body paragraph, write a paragraph that identifies the specific topic of the paragraph. If more than one topic is in the paragraph, warn the writer that he or she may need to break up the paragraph. Comment on the effectiveness of the transition. Check that each quote has a signal phrase, the quotation in quotation marks, a properly located and formatted citation, and discussion. If it does not, indicate what's missing. Finally, comment on how well the evidence is explained and linked to the paper's thesis.
    • FOR THE CONCLUSION: Write a paragraph that comments on the transition, how effectively the conclusion recaps the major points, and how clearly the thesis is reinforced at the end.
    • FOR THE WORKS CITED PAGE: verify that the works cited page is formatted correctly and that each entry is accurate.
    • FINAL NOTE: Write a note that outlines the three best parts of the paper and identifies three concrete steps the author could take to improve the paper.
  • Save the document.
  • On the Discussion Board, REPLY to the original post. Copy and paste the response into your reply and attach the file. Then post.
  • Please complete your respone by 5PM on Friday, March 2.

You will be graded on your ability to meet the 8AM and 5PM deadlines, the depth of your answers, and your completeness.
