FINAL PEER REVIEW

PART I: Peer Review

Exchange papers with your partner and write "Reviewed by ______" at the top, inserting your name in the blank. Please mark errors, weak transitions, fragments, and particularly strong sections. Pay careful attention to quote mechanics (the use of a signal phrase, block quote techniques, citations, quotes within quotes, and punctuation placement). The write a page-long note that does the following:

  • Discuss the subject and thesis, outlining what you think the overall argument is, where it is best stated, and how well the paper supports it. If the thesis is weak or non-existent, you need to say so now.
  • Discuss the use of evidence to support the claim: does the paper read like an argument (which is the goal of the assignment) or only an informational-only paper (which is not enough for this assignment)? Are unquoted facts and/or paraphrases cited (as they should be)? Are quotes being analyzed and used to support the writer's argument, or do they just sit there? What sections work particularly well to use evidence and which areas need work?
  • Discuss the mechanics of working with sources: the citations, the signal phrases, etc. What issues should they work on?
  • What about the format? Discuss what they need to fix.
  • Offer three suggestions to improve the paper.
