PAPER #2: FIRST DRAFT PEER REVIEW

First, make sure your own paper is posted by the start of class. Copy and paste AND attach the MS Word file of your paper.

Then you will need to review two other papers. Canvas should randomly assign you two papers. If it does not, review the two posted immediately after yours. If you are the second -to-last person to post, review the paper posted after yours and the first paper posted. If you are the last to post, review the first two posts.

Rather than focus on errors, I want you to copy and paste the following questions into MS Word and then answer the questions. Then copy and paste the questions with your answers as a reply to the original paper’s post.

Peer Review Questions:

  1. Who is the author of the paper you are reading?
  2. What is the title of the paper?
  3. How many pages long is the draft?
  4. Which primary text are they writing about? 28 Days Later, I Am Legend, or The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde?
  5. Did they identify the author and title of their primary text in the opening paragraph? If they did not, remind them to do so.
  6. Which theory piece are they using to support their claim about the text? “Monster Culture (Seven Theses),” The Horror Film, or The Monster Show?
  7. Did they identify the author and title of the theory piece in the opening paragraph? If they did not, remind them to do so. Exception: if they are using The Monster Show, they may not need to reference it as it is a methodological example rather than a specific idea to use to support their claim.
  8. What is their specific argument/thesis/interpretation about their primary text? Restate it in their own words and then copy and paste the sentences you think best express their thesis and put them in quotation marks.
  9. What is the best quotation/scene from the primary text using in the current draft? What point do they make using that quotation or scene? Why is it effective? How do they link it to one of the theoretical texts?
  10. What is the best use of the theoretical text in the paper? Why?
  11. Are there places where a quotation from the theoretical text either doesn’t make sense as a way of explaining the primary text? How might the author fix that?
  12. Can you think of examples from the primary text that aren’t in the paper that would help further support the argument? If so, what are they? Type out the quote and give the page number if there is one.
  13. Can you think of quotations from the theoretical text that could further support the argument? Type out the quote and give the page number.
  14. What formatting errors do you see?
  15. Recap the best parts of the paper thus far.
  16. Give three pieces of concrete advice for the author to use to either complete or revise the paper.
