COMMON TASKS IN MS WORD 2007 (For Windows)

Please note that these instructions are only for MS Word 2007 for PC's running Windows. Mac users and users of earlier versions of MS Word should consult the HELP option.
TO CHANGE MARGINS
- Click on PAGE LAYOUT tab.
- Click on Margins.
- Click NORMAL for 1" margins at top, bottom, left, and right.
- OR click on CUSTOM MARGINS and change the top, bottom, left, and right margins to 1". Keep the gutter at 0".
TO INSERT AND FORMAT PAGE NUMBERS
- Click on INSERT tab
- Click on PAGE NUMBERS
- Click on TOP OF PAGE
- Select PLAIN NUMBER 3 so the page number appears at the top right corner
- Type your last name followed by a space in front of the page number.
- Highlight your last name and the number.
- Right click and select FONT.
- Change font to 12 point Times New Roman.
- Click red CLOSE HEADER AND FOOTER button.
TO REMOVE GAP BETWEEN PARAGRAPHS
- Highlight entire paper
- RIGHT CLICK selected text and choose PARAGRAPH.
- Click the box next to "Don't add space between paragraphs of the same style" so that a checkmark appears.
TO CREATE A HANGING INDENT FOR A WORKS CITED ENTRY
- Highlight works cited entry
- RIGHT CLICK selected text and choose PARAGRAPH
- Change the indentation special option to HANGING INDENT.
TO INDENT A LONGER QUOTATION 0.5"FROM THE LEFT MARGIN
- Highlight the quotation.
- RIGHT CLICK selected text and choose PARAGRAPH
- Change the left indent to 0.5".
