2. Skim the handout on "Integrating Quotes into a Paper (MLA Style)."

3. Skim the handout on "How to Deal with Titles."

4. Click on the MLA Citations Guide handout so that you can see the information you might need to document sources.

Written Work:

1. Identify the text or texts from the syllabus you plan to work with.

2. What issue or theme does this text (or texts) contain that interests you?

3. Are any of the theoretical readings we've done applicable to your idea? If so, which one?If not, please explain why your topic doesn't seem to need it.

4. Identify at least five significant quotes from your texts. For each one, type out the entire quote and then put the page number. Explain what each quote means in your own words.

5. You paper has to have a topic and an argument. Identify the topic and then write out a thesis statement that presents your argument as a provable point.

Post the document to the discussion board under the Paper #2: prewriting thread. Be sure to both copy and paste the document AND attach the file.

When we meet in the library, in addition to seeking help from Dr. Halbert or the library staff, I expect you to do the bulk of your research using the following online resource located on the Montco Library Site, which can be found in the Academic tab of the MyMc3.edu portal after you log in:

    • Books:
      • "Find books and e-books" (best for physical books)
      • NetLibrary (best for e-books because it has a "search" feature that skims the entire text of the book)
    • Journal Articles:
      • JSTOR (great for literature, history and art academic articles)
      • Academic Search Premier (make sure you click on "full text" and "academic" in the search options)
      • Literature Research Center (stick with the "Criticism" tab after you do a basic search
